The events leading up to this catastrophic event began when the colonists' ship crashed into the Ishimura, unleashing a deadly virus that spread rapidly throughout the ship. The Unitologists, obsessed with worshiping the Marker, descended into madness as they sought to comprehend its power.

Meanwhile, one of the colonists, driven by grief and desperation, escaped with the corpse of his dead wife, unaware that she was slowly transforming into a Necromorph. As he made his way onto the Ishimura, he unwittingly brought the infection closer to spreading throughout the ship.

In a desperate bid to call for aid, a team of crew members, led by Chief of Security Alissa Vincent, fought their way from the morgue to the top of the ship. But it was too late. The Necromorphs had already claimed the lives of many, including Captain Mathius, who died after an attempted sedation by Kyne went horribly wrong.

As the crew members struggled to comprehend the true extent of the horror they faced, they knew that their only hope for survival lay in finding a way to escape the Ishimura and alert the authorities. But with the Necromorphs closing in, their chances of success seemed increasingly slim.
